Australian High Commissioner Calls on JI Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman
Lahore – August 7: Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Neil Hawkins, called on Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman at the party’s headquarters in Mansoorah.
The meeting covered matters of mutual interest, with discussions spanning important national and international developments.
During the conversation, the JI Emir raised serious concern over the ongoing Israeli bombardment and blockade in Gaza, which he described as resulting in genocide. He urged the Australian government—through the High Commissioner—to recognize the State of Palestine, push for an immediate end to the blockade, and play an active role in securing a ceasefire.
Rehman paid tribute to the Australian people for their massive pro-Palestinian rally in Sydney two days earlier, where hundreds of thousands braved harsh weather to express solidarity with the people of Gaza.
On the issue of Kashmir, the JI Emir called on Australia to take a firm stance against human rights violations and advocate for the implementation of UN resolutions regarding the disputed region.
The two sides also discussed Pakistan–Australia cooperation in key sectors including education, mining, and nursing. The High Commissioner expressed goodwill for Jamaat-e-Islami and emphasized the importance of maintaining continued dialogue.
JI Vice Emir Dr. Ata ur Rehman was also present during the meeting.
