Government Patronising Mafias Looting the Public: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman
Lahore, July 3: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman on Friday said the government was patronizing powerful mafias that were plundering the public, adding that the country's political and economic system had been captured by corruption, exploitation, and vested interests.
Addressing participants of the party's Central Training Camp and the Friday congregation at Mansoorah, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the Form-47 government had imposed an exploitative system on the country and vowed that Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its peaceful nationwide movement for public rights. He demanded that the government pass on the benefits of declining global oil prices to consumers by reducing petrol prices to between Rs200 and Rs225 per litre, abolishing excessive petroleum levies, dismantling the IPP mafia, and providing immediate relief to the public.
He said that corruption and mafia influence had taken hold of every level of governance, adding that influential groups bought wheat from farmers at low prices before selling flour to consumers at inflated rates, earning billions with official backing. He further said the government was protecting these interests instead of safeguarding the people.
The JI chief said feudal elites, privileged classes, and powerful groups had deprived citizens of equal access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities, warning that future generations could not be left to inherit what he described as a corrupt and decaying system.
Criticizing the electoral process, JI leader said that public mandates were repeatedly undermined through Form-47, adding that election winners were deprived of victory while defeated candidates were declared successful. He said such practices weakened democracy and eroded public trust in state institutions. He stressed that Jamaat-e-Islami would challenge the situation through an organized, principled, and peaceful political struggle rather than disorderly protests.
Referring to the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, he said Jamaat-e-Islami had sought to resolve tensions through mediation and dialogue but alleged that the government was again aggravating the crisis. He maintained that the use of force could not resolve political disputes and urged authorities to respect the public mandate and pursue negotiations.
Reiterating his criticism of fuel taxation,Rehman said heavy petroleum levies and taxes were imposing an unfair burden on citizens despite falling international oil prices. He urged the government to withdraw additional taxes and reduce fuel prices to provide relief to both the public and the economy.
He also called on party workers and supporters to strengthen Jamaat-e-Islami's membership drive and public outreach campaign, reaffirming that the party believed in peaceful political resistance and would soon announce a nationwide movement against inflation, corruption, injustice, and an exploitative system.
