Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman Announces Nationwide Movement Against Inflation
Lahore, June 4: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has announced the launch of a major nationwide movement in the coming days against inflation, rising electricity and petroleum prices, and the erosion of public rights.
Addressing an online meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami office-bearers from the party's headquarters in Mansoorah, Lahore, Rehman said the party's fundamental mission is the establishment of an Islamic system based on the sovereignty of Allah, and that this objective can only be achieved through public support, organized outreach, and sustained grassroots efforts.
He directed party leaders and workers across the country to intensify the ongoing membership campaign over the next ten days and achieve assigned targets. Senior party leaders, Vice Emir Dr. Osama Razi, Emir Punjab Central Javed Kasuri, Deputy Secretary Generals Waqas Anjum Jafri and Nazir Janjua, Special Assistant to JI Emir Dr. Sami Sherpao and Information Secretary Shakil Ahmed Turabi, were also present on the occasion.
Rehman emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami does not believe in attaining power through conspiracies, secret deals, or undemocratic means. “We seek change through the support of the people. Any revolution that lacks public backing cannot be sustainable,” he said.
Describing the membership drive as a broader outreach and invitation campaign, he said its purpose is to expand the organization, connect new individuals with its mission, and strengthen the struggle for the establishment of Islamic values in society. He urged office-bearers at all levels to dedicate the coming days to the campaign and personally participate alongside workers.
According to Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, between 1.8 and 2 million men and women joined the party during the previous phase of the membership campaign. He expressed confidence that, with dedicated efforts, Jamaat-e-Islami could recruit an additional 1.5 to 2 million members during the current phase.
The JI chief issued special instructions to party leaders in major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, Quetta, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Hyderabad, directing them to ensure comprehensive coverage of their respective areas and advance the membership campaign in an extraordinary manner.
He stated that the success of Jamaat-e-Islami can be measured through two key indicators: growing public support and a continuous increase in the number of workers, members, and supporters. “If both are increasing, the organization is moving in the right direction,” he said.
Highlighting the worsening economic situation, Rehman stressed the need to effectively communicate the party's stance on inflation, electricity tariffs, and fuel prices. He urged workers to utilize social media platforms and WhatsApp groups to disseminate the party's message, saying Jamaat-e-Islami remains the strongest voice for public issues, but that voice can only reach the masses through its workers.
He also signaled that the party would soon announce a protest campaign or public movement in connection with the upcoming federal budget and issues related to electricity and petroleum prices, emphasizing the need for a well-organized and active cadre.
The JI chief underscored the importance of public committees as effective platforms for social reform, addressing community problems, guiding youth, combating drug abuse, resolving local disputes, and serving society. He said efforts to establish and activate such committees would be accelerated after the completion of the membership campaign and subsequent membership conventions.
Expressing concern over rising drug use among young people, he described it as a serious national challenge and directed party leaders to launch an organized awareness campaign in collaboration with teachers, religious scholars, doctors, engineers, and other community figures.
Rehman said Jamaat-e-Islami is not merely a political party but a religious movement that views politics as a form of worship, outreach, and continuation of the mission of the Prophets. He urged party office-bearers to uphold honesty, transparency, and accountability in all matters and fulfill their organizational and outreach responsibilities with a strong sense of responsibility before Allah.
He also instructed party officials to prioritize the use of the organization's central digital application for membership registration and ensure that data collected through manual forms is promptly uploaded to the system to strengthen organizational communication and follow-up mechanisms.
