JI Emir urges govt to move ICJ over India’s water aggression
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman visits Gurdwara Kartarpur, vows relief aid and solidarity with Sikh community
Sialkot/Narowal, Aug 29– Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has called on the government to approach the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty and water aggression.
Speaking to the media during visits to flood-hit areas of Sialkot and Narowal, he criticized the government for relying on cosmetic measures while flood victims await urgent relief. “Instead of helicopter tours and boat rides, rulers should focus on practical work.“ Prime Minister and his niece, he added, must think of the nation and provide real relief to the people.
Rehman, who returned from Iran and suspended his engagements to visit Pasrur and Kartarpur, met affected families and inspected JI and Alkhidmat relief camps. During a special visit to Gurdwara Kartarpur, he assured full cooperation with the Sikh community and instructed Alkhidmat to install a water filtration plant on the premises. He also appealed to Sikh youth to join Alkhidmat as volunteers. The Gurdwara administration thanked him for his visit.
Expressing deep grief over losses in Punjab, the JI Emir said Alkhidmat Foundation is active across flood-hit regions and its volunteers are serving with dedication. He lamented the absence of visible government relief efforts. “India resorts to propaganda after every act of water aggression. But, our government is content with advertisements. NDMA and PDMA must expedite their relief activities,” said the JI Emir.
“Why does the state machinery fail to act on time? Why is there no prior preparation?” he asked.
He vowed that JI and Alkhidmat would remain fully focused on rehabilitation of the affected communities.
