Prime Minister Contacts Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman to Discuss Flood Situation, Relief Efforts
Lahore, August 21: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman to discuss the damage caused by recent floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the ongoing relief activities. Both leaders agreed on the urgent need to accelerate relief efforts to ease the suffering of people affected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Karachi, and other areas hit by heavy rains.
The Prime Minister appreciated the relief work carried out by Alkhidmat Foundation and lauded the dedication of its volunteers.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman stressed that in the current situation, all political parties must set aside differences and focus on serving the people in distress. He urged the government to devise effective strategies and plans to deal with the grave threats posed by climate change. He pointed out that while tourist sites and urban areas need to be cleared of encroachments, timely cleaning of storm drains in major cities is essential to prevent large-scale destruction. He also emphasized that the government must effectively present Pakistan’s case before the international community, as the country remains among those worst affected by global environmental pollution caused by major powers.
The JI Emir called upon workers of all political parties to join hands with Jamaat-e-Islami and Alkhidmat volunteers in supporting the ongoing relief activities in flood-affected regions. He made it clear that Jamaat-e-Islami does not seek to derive any political advantage from the current crisis. He instructed party workers to intensify their support for the people of Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It may be recalled that Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman had recently spoken to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur about the devastation caused by floods and the relief measures required. The JI Emir also suspended all other engagements to personally visit the flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
