Corruption, elite rule blocking Pakistan’s progress: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman on Saturday said youth had been left disillusioned by a political culture dominated by bullets and abuse, adding that corruption, nepotism and class-based inequality had taken root across every sector of society.
Addressing a large gathering during a Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan Bano Qabil ceremony in Chitral, the JI chief said no major political force other than Jamaat-e-Islami was seriously investing in the future of the younger generation.
He described the Bano Qabil initiative as a game changer and revealed that nearly 1.45 million students had so far registered for the free IT education programme launched under Alkhidmat Foundation.
Thousands of male and female students appeared in admission tests for various free training programmes. Successful candidates will receive professional training in courses of different durations.
Rehman announced a major expansion of the programme, saying Bano Qabil would now include technical and vocational training alongside IT education. He added that the initiative had been broadened under a new platform named “Z-Connect,” which would also focus on sports activities and character-building among youth.
“Pakistan’s young people should not lose hope,” he said, urging students to move forward with confidence, unity and a strong connection with both religion and modern education.
The JI chief said thousands of IT labs had already been established across the country through the initiative, adding that the programme aimed to equip youth with employable skills while encouraging constructive social engagement.
Criticising the country’s governance structure, Rehman said the objectives behind Pakistan’s creation remained unfulfilled even after nearly eight decades. He said the ruling elite, feudal families and bureaucratic structures were monopolising power while ordinary citizens continued to struggle for justice, education and economic opportunities.
He said quality education had become increasingly inaccessible for low-income families, adding the existing system primarily served privileged classes.
Calling on young people to become part of a broader movement for reform, he urged them to support Jamaat-e-Islami’s campaign for systemic political and social change.
Referring to challenges faced by Chitral, Rehman said the region continued to suffer from a lack of basic facilities. He said successive governments ignored public welfare. He said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue a peaceful democratic struggle for people’s rights.
The ceremony was also addressed by JI KP Northern Emir Inayatullah Khan, Alkhidmat Secretary General Waqas Anjum Jafri and other party leaders. Bano Qabil Chief Executive Shahid Iqbal was also present.
