PM Shehbaz Sharif, JI Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman Hold Telephonic Contact Over Gaza Crisis
JI Chief Conveys Khaled Meshaal’s Message to PM Shehbaz
Lahore – July 26: Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman held a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to brief him on the worsening food crisis in Gaza, conveying a message from senior Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal. The message urged Pakistan to take urgent and concrete steps to ensure the delivery of food and medicine to the besieged people of Gaza.
PM Shehbaz and JI Emir strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression and the blockade of humanitarian aid, expressing grave concern over the alarming humanitarian situation resulting from severe food shortages. The Prime Minister assured Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman that the government would raise a strong voice on all international forums and praised the efforts of Alkhidmat Foundation for its continued relief work for Gaza’s citizens. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to intensifying diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire.
Earlier on Saturday evening, Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal contacted Hafiz Naeem and apprised him of the dire conditions in Gaza caused by acute shortages of food, water, and medicine. He appealed to Rehman to relay a message to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on behalf of Gaza’s leadership and people. In the message, Meshaal emphasized Pakistan’s critical role in the Islamic world and called upon it to act urgently and assert leadership in supporting the people of Gaza.
Meshaal stated that Israeli forces were deliberately targeting refugee camps and aid seekers with explosives, turning starvation into a weapon of war. He stressed that the people of Gaza, while looking to the wider Muslim ummah and international community, hold high hopes from Pakistan. He urged Pakistan to expose Israel’s weaponization of food on the global stage.
Responding immediately, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to deliver the message. He urged the government to engage with the international community—particularly Muslim nations—to facilitate the supply of essential food and medicine to Gaza. “Pakistan must act swiftly and decisively to save over two million people from starvation,” he emphasized. Rehman added that despite repeated appeals from humanitarian agencies and the UN, Israel continues to act with impunity, behaving like a ‘rogue elephant.’ He called on the government to utilize all available avenues to ensure urgent aid reaches the people of Gaza.
