Protection from Harmful Social Practices

Women must be protected from customs that violate their dignity, consent and rights. Jamaat-e-Islami supports firm action against practices such as forced marriage, Wani/Swara, marriage to the Qur’an, trafficking, coercive dowry demands and so-called honour killings. Cultural tradition cannot be used to justify oppression. Marriage, family life and social relations must be governed by consent, justice, responsibility and the protections provided by Islam and the law.
