Economy and Livelihood

An Economy That Serves People, Not Privilege

An Economy That Serves People, Not Privilege

Jamaat-e-Islami will pursue an economy in which wealth circulates through productive activity rather than remaining concentrated through monopoly, political influence, interest-based exploitation and privileged access to the state.

A binding Charter of Economy will establish long-term continuity on taxation, energy, exports, industrialisation, debt reduction, employment and social protection. The transition towards an Islamic financial order will be pursued through a phased programme based on profit-and-loss sharing, Islamic development finance, interest-free microfinance and Shariah-compliant public financing.

Key Policy Pillars

  • Tax Justice: Exempt monthly salaries up to Rs125,000 from income tax, reduce excessive indirect taxation and eliminate unjust exemptions for powerful economic groups.
  • Progressive Taxation: Introduce agricultural income taxation on large landholdings while protecting small cultivators, digitise land and water taxation and strengthen FBR enforcement.
  • Government Austerity: Reduce non-development expenditure by a targeted 30 percent and eliminate unnecessary official privileges, luxury vehicles, excessive protocol and wasteful spending.
  • Affordable Energy: Reduce electricity and fuel costs, review unjust IPP agreements, eliminate punitive billing structures and strengthen consumer protection.
  • Energy Independence: Promote hydropower, nuclear energy, solar and wind manufacturing, battery storage and domestic energy technology.
  • Industrialisation and Employment: Establish a National Industrial Renewal Programme focused on stable energy prices, export finance, technology transfer, industrial clusters and SME development.
  • Public Enterprise Reform: Retain and reform strategic public assets, introduce professional management and ensure transparent, competitive processes wherever privatisation is necessary.
  • Accountability and Clean Government: Restructure accountability institutions, eliminate political interference and publish procurement, development spending and government contracts.
  • Labour Rights and Fair Wages: Enforce inflation-indexed minimum wages, timely salaries, occupational safety, social security and protection for informal and home-based workers.
  • Productive Welfare: Replace political dependency with education, vocational training, healthcare, employment placement, small-business finance and digital skills.
  • Tourism and Local Economies: Develop heritage, religious, cultural, coastal and ecological tourism while supporting local businesses and community employment.
  • Overseas Pakistanis: Simplify digital and consular services, reduce remittance costs and provide investment facilitation and legal assistance.
  • International Economic Relations: Strengthen trade, investment and technology partnerships, complete CPEC projects transparently and expand access to international markets.
