JI memorandum to Jordan Monarch through Embassy
Following memorandum was presented to
the acting ambassador H.E. Ebrahim by a delegation headed by Sec. Gen Syed Munawar Hasan
on Dec 6, 1999
His Majesty King Abdullah
II
Monarch of Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan
Through: H.E. Ambassador
Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan - Islamabad Pakistan
We in Jamaa't e Islami
Pakistan like most other Muslims in Pakistan and the Muslim world learnt with astonishment
and deep sorrow about the decision taken by the Government of Jordan regarding the
deportation of members of "Hammas" Politburo from their native land on Nov
21,1999. According to the reports received the Politburo was in operation for the last at
least six years as a center for information and diplomatic activities for the noble cause
of liberating the First Qibla. It was perfectly in harmony of Jordan's policy of its
support to the Palestinian cause and accommodating millions of the displaced Palestinian
people.
As a matter of fact this
policy secured a high respect for Jordan in the hearts of people all over the Muslim
world. Contrary to this, the present measure of deporting the Hamas leadership is not only
a blunt divergence from the earlier Policy, it has also created a lot of dissatisfaction
among all those who are concerned with the holy struggle for the liberation of First
Qibla. It rather portrays image of a Government not ready to give its citizens the rights
of freedom of expression of their political opinion, and the right to defend their cause
and their people. A careful scrutiny of the facts clearly reveals that the charges levied
against the deported leadership, including that of possessing arms and attempting to
undermine national security of Jordan are not based on any credible Judiciary evidence.
Moreover the deported Hamas leaders are Jordanian citizens and have played a significant
constructive role in the civil community of Jordan. Infact the freedom struggle undertaken
by these brothers against Israeli occupation constitutes defending Jordanian territories,
particularly the West Bank territory, which was occupied by Israel from Jordanian
sovereignty in 1967. In our view the deportation step is not a just step and only serves
the Zionist interest of weakening the political struggle for liberation and dividing the
resistance forces. Jamaa't Islami Pakistan firmly believes that defending the usurped
rights and Islamic Holy lands is a duty of all noble Muslims and it therefore urges your
highness to: Immediately allow the deported brothers return home to their people and
families. Restore for them their right of legitimate political work and information in
accordance with the understanding that existed between the "Hamas" Movement and
Jordanian government since 1993.
We hope that the fervent
call being made by Muslims all over the world would meet your favorable and positive
response.
