Islam & Politics

Question:

Dear sirs,

I am currently studying religion at a University in Norway. I'm working very much with Islam ... and I therefore have a question for you, which I hope you can give a brief answer to. As you are a political party, I have a question regarding Islam and politics.

"What is the theological and social conditions for the use of Islam as a political ideology?"

I hope you are able to answer me soon...

Kim

Answer:

Dear Kim, Assalam u Alaikum Wa Rehmatullah

It is a great blessing that Allah has provided you an opportunity to understand Islam along with other religions of the world. Quran the only divine book which is preserved currently in its original language clearly states that the only religion in the sight of Allah is Islam alone and no other religion other than Islam shall be accepted by Allah on the day of judgment. We pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa taallah that he guide you to accept Islam.

Islam is a complete code of life and its implications are expanded to all walks of life. It is a belief, a tradition, acts of worship, as well as a code of socio-economic and political activities to ensure peace and socio-economic justice for the Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Unfortunately the west is not at all trying to understand the blessings of Islam and an Islamic state. On the contrary it is supporting Muslim kings, monarchs, Amirs and the so called Muslim military dictators and trying to project sincere Islamic movements as fundamentalists and militants. As a research scholar you must distinguish between Muslims and Islam.

Secondly, you should also know the fact that one cannot understand the political system of Islam without understanding all the other teaching of Islam. This should not be understood in isolation. Thirdly, one should know that Islam has democracy, but quite different to western democracy. It believes in fundamental rights but as it defines THE objective of appointment of all the prophets, messengers and the Islamic state is to eliminate corruption, injustice and exploitation of men by other human beings and to make human beings a humble servant of God.

A good Muslim is one who not only offers the prescribed rituals but he is also a good husband, father, neighbour, businessman, employer, employee, etc. and a staunch supporter and guard of the Islamic state, which is a tool and institution to make sure that the justice is guaranteed. Not only by moral teachings but also by a legal force. We advise you to go through the following books :

1- Islamic law and constitution (AL-MAUDUDI) translated by KHURSHID AHMED.

2- Come let us change this world. (AL-MAUDUDI & KAUKAB SIDDIQI) translation .

3- Economic and political teachings of THE QURAN (edited by M.M SHARIF)

4- Human rights in Islam by ISLAMIC FOUNDATION, LEICESTER, U.K.

5- Islamic law and constitution by PROF. KHURSHID AHMED

6- Rights of non-Muslims in an Islamic state by AL-MAUDUDI.

7-Islamic law, concept and codification by AMIN AHMED ISLAHI.

8- Towards Understanding Islam by MAUDUDI.
