Bismillah
Assalamu Alaikum: Peace Be With You

PARDA (Hijab)

Question:

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan already has a bad name, please stop being extremists. Women do need to cover everything but face, hands and feet, not their faces and hands and feet. Islam does not want women to stay at home all the time. Islam is a very practical religion.

A sister from USA

Answer:

Dear Sister, Assalamu Alaikum

Thanks for your comment, however your feelings are based on misinformation and misunderstanding about Jamaat-e-Islami. One is free to make his opinion, but it should be based on first hand information. Jamaat-e-Islami is the one and only party in which people from different schools of thought including Hanafities, Malikites, Shafites, Humbalites and Sulafites (Ahlal-Hadith) are its members and associate members. It believes in Ijmaa (Consensus). Its founder and first Amir Al Sheikh Maududi,  in his first speech after being elected Amir, declared the fundamental principle that the ulamas (scholars) within the Jamaat-e-Islami are free to form their own opinion in all matters of Ijtehad. They are in no way bound to accept the opinion of Sheikh Al-Maududi in any issue of jurisprudence.

All the scholars of Islam agree that the women should cover all parts of body in front of Non-mahrams except face and hand upto ankles. This is a consensus view. As regards covering of face, it is also believed and recommended by certain scholars as obligatory and therefore many of our sisters adhere to this. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to go through the literature of Jamaat. We are sure that after a through study you shall come to the conclusion that Jamaat is the most moderate party. We expect all Muslims to perform the minimum required by Islam. The members and Associate members of Jamaat perform their five time prayers in all mosques irrespective of their sect. We are trying to unite Ummah on common grounds and we do not over-emphasise disputed matters. We believe in unity of Muslim Ummah and we avoid all attitudes resulting in division and disharmony.

Wassalam,
