LAHORE, May 3: Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Syed
Munawar Hasan has said that ruling alliance was under foreign
pressure over the issue of restoration of judges.
Dubai talks and its decisions have created doubts among the people
since both the parties lacked consensus over constitution of a
committee, text of resolution and further delayed its tabling in
National Assembly for 12 days, he said while addressing a meeting at
Mansoorah on Saturday.
Munawar said America and Gen Musharraf are openly obstructing the
restoration of judges which was evident from changing the venue to
Dubai from Islamabad, unusual activities of mysterious foreign
personalities during the negotiations, presence of Gen Musharraf's
close advisor at the venue, refraining by both the leaders to
address a post negotiation press conference, and detailed meeting of
American ambassador with Mian Nawaz Sharif after his press
conference at Lahore, and above all Asif Zardari's refusal to commit
himself with the May 12 deadline for tabling the resolution. Munawar
said America and his agents in Pakistan are openly opposed to
establishing a strong system of justice and democracy in Pakistan
since it threatens their own vested interests.
Munawar advised PPP leadership to honor the public mandate of Feb 18
polls which clearly asked for removal of Gen Musharraf and American
policies from the country. He said people want removal of Gen
Musharraf through impeachment at the earliest and restoration of all
judges at the pre Nov. 3 07 position.
Munawar said ruling alliance is committing itself more to
strengthening the rule instead of providing economic relief to the
masses who are being crushed under huge price hike. He lamented that
rulers are increasing petrol prices instead of providing subsidy to
the people. On the other hand, load shedding, lawlessness, crimes
and scarcity of food have already broken the back of the common man.
Munawar warned that if rulers continued to close their eyes towards
these pressing problems and delayed the restoration of judges, then
people might come out on the streets after their patience exhausted.
