LAHORE, Mar 5: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said if new government backed out of its promises to reverse Nov 3, 2007, measures and restore judiciary working at that time then people will do it themselves.

Dr Qadeer Khan is the great national hero and he should be the president of country, he said while addressing an emergency meeting of JI office bearers and talking to media on Wednesday night at Mansoorah.

Qazi announced full support to lawyers' 'black flag week' and said JI workers would participate in lawyers protest programs. He demanded that independent judiciary headed by Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry should be restored and Gen Musharraf should resign immediately. He condemned the meetings of new parliamentary leaders with the American ambassador saying it was contrary to national honor and sovereignty. He said American interference in government formation process was violation of international laws and national sovereignty.

Qazi said JI will allow time to new government to fulfill its electoral promises, saying we don't want to create problems for new government but to support them in their national and electoral agenda. He said unity of MMA is necessary for sectarian harmony in the country, adding that MMA could also be restored and begun functioning as a political alliance if politics of principles was pursued instead of personal interests.

Qazi emphasized that Dr Qadeer Khan is a great national asset and he should be given due respect because of his great services for patriotism and scientific excellence. He said a person like Dr Qadeer Khan deserves to be made president of Pakistan and the nation should implement this demand.
