     Call to abolish NSC

LAHORE, January 27: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said if the sitting Chief of Army Staff is sincere in his sayings he should summarily abolish the National Security Council [NSC] as it is symbolic perpetuation of army rule in the country. "The unity of army and its people can only make the defence of the country impregnable."

Talking to various delegations at the party headquarters Mansoorah on Sunday Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the Musharraf's policy to appease the Americans has pitched the Pakistan army against its own people and the dimensions of this clash is unleashing dangerous dimensions. He expressed grave concern over the displacement of more than 70,000 people in the tribal areas due to army operation in the area.

Americans, he said, and all other anti-Pakistan forces are out to pitch the tribes against Pakistan. "In order to achieve this objective they are supporting separatist movements so that the country's nuclear assets could become their easy prey." Qazi Sahib maintained if Islamabad withdraws her logistic support to American, the allied forces can not stay in Afghanistan for a single day.

To a question, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said it was high time for all the political parties to join hands for launching a drive against Musharraf since he is passing the most vulnerable time of his autocratic rule due to sharp decline in his popularity and rejection of policies by the masses.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad reiterated the APDM demand of boycotting the Feb 18 elections saying participation in these sham elections would bring no good to the people or the country. (#)
