JI to observe Black Day on May 12 against MQM massacre: Qazi

LAHORE, Apr 30: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said MQM is a fascist group which does not fulfill the credentials to be called a political party. He said making a political alliance with MQM and including it in the ruling alliance is an open violation of London APC declaration and betrayal of the blood of thousands of innocent martyrs. Qazi said EU mission has exposed the so called heavy mandate of MQM and the group, adding that MQM is being included in the ruling coalition on the pressure of Gen Musharraf. Qazi termed MQM as "militant wing" of Gen Musharraf's dictatorship, and announced that JI would observe a country wide black day on May 12 to commemorate and condemn MQM's massacre on May 12, 07, during the proposed visit of chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhri, and the subsequent burning alive of several lawyers in a building on April 9, 08.

He was addressing a press conference on Wednesday at Mansoorah. Other JI leaders Chaudhri Aslam Salimi, Liaqat Baloch, Hafiz Idris, Munawar Hasan, Malik Ashraf and Amirul Azim were also present on the occasion.

Qazi said JI would hold demonstrations against it all over the country to express solidarity with the hostage people of Karachi.
Qazi demanded that Gen Musharraf must step down immediately and Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan should be made president in his place. He said Dr AQ Khan was detained under American orders and if present rulers were not taking dictates from Washington then they should release him immediately.

Qazi said Asif Zardari must not violate his commitment due to personal reasons against the superior judges. We fully support the stance of PML-N so far, but emphasize that violating this commitment will mean betraying the trust of the nation.
Qazi stressed that ruling alliance was bound to restore judges through a resolution of National Assembly within 30 days of the inception of federal government, for which they had signed an agreement before the eyes of the whole world.

"Rulers' hesitation to restore judges is unfortunate. If they backed out of their promise they will be deemed as dishonest and cheats, and hence unworthy of the public mandate of Feb 18," he warned. To a question, Qazi reminded PPP co-chairperson Asif Zardari that the same judiciary had also rejected JI's constitutional petitions against the presidential eligibility to contest elections, adding "but that does not mean we should keep this grudge and oppose restoration of those judges. Once chief justice had said historic No to the military dictator, then he deserved unconditional support in the larger interest of the nation and irrespective of personal grudges. We advise Zardari that he should give up personal grudges against the chief justice and give priority to the independence of the judiciary to everything else."

Qazi explained that judiciary's independence and honor of judges could only be restored if the nation stood by those who refused to bow before military dictators. He expressed sorrow that vital decisions of national importance were being made in Dubai by covering them up from the public eyes. To another question, he said, "We don't want the ruling alliance to be broken, but Gen Musharraf and his dictatorship should be shown the exit instead."

Qazi announced that APDM's summit meeting was being called on May 14 to discus this situation, adding that, the whole situation would have become clear by then. Then JI central shoora meeting would be called for May 17 to 19 to chalk out our own strategy, he said.

Qazi said JI would hold seminars in all provincial headquarters in collaboration with Human Rights groups for the release of the missing persons. He said all the missing persons were picked up by the agencies under American orders and handed over to Washington. To a question, Qazi said America and its tool Gen Musharraf were conspiring against the newly installed democratic rule in Islamabad. To a question, he said, continuation of American policies suggested that no change was brought in the country as a result of Feb 18 elections. He said all the electoral promises made with the nation must be fulfilled by the rulers.
