World must define terrorism, extremism: Qazi

LAHORE, Apr 22: British High Commissioner in Pakistan Robert Brinkley and incharge South Asia and Afghan Desk, British Foreign Ministry, Adam Thomson, called on Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad at his residence in Islamabad on Tuesday.

According to a press release by party Media Cell, they discussed matters of mutual interests including the prevailing situation in the region, Pak-Afghan relations, situation in tribal areas and negotiation policy of NWFP government.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad made it clear on the British delegation that talks are the only way to solve all problems and will produce fruits in near future. He emphasized that the world community and the west should evolve a proper definition of the terrorism and extremism, and also include state terrorism as an offence under this list since it is the very issue which is giving birth to new tragedies in Palestine, Kashmir and other parts of the world with Muslim populations. Regarding Afghanistan's situation, Qazi asked how could those people be declared terrorists who are fighting against the foreign invaders, adding that UN has also acknowledged the right to struggle for independence.

About new government Qazi said rulers are facing many challenges simultaneously and his party will not take any stance in haste nor it has any intention for agitation at present. He said we want the new rulers to show their performance. He said restoration of judges is a decided issue since rulers have promised to restore them within 30 days. He said only ten days are left in this period and hopefully all judges will be restored in this time.
