Ridding Musharraf essential for national security: Munawar

LAHORE, Apr 15: Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Syed Munawar Hasan has said that departure of Gen Musharraf from the president House and restoration of judges is necessary for country's security, strengthening of democratic institutions and ending American intervention into our internal affairs.

He was addressing the concluding session of the five day training workshop at Mansoorah here Tuesday.

Munawar said due to coward policies of Gen Musharraf American influence in our internal affairs has reached dangerous levels and now Washington wants direct access to the National Command Authority. According to a recent report, Washington has demanded direct access to Pakistan's nuclear assets.

He said all patriotic Pakistanis are deeply concerned with the situation and demanding immediate removal of Gen Musharraf otherwise independence of democratic institutions will be jeopardized.

Munawar said manhandling of Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Sher Afgan are condemnable but asked those who boycotted the assembly proceedings on this pretext that why they kept quiet when thousands of girls in Jamia Hafsa were mercilessly massacred and their dead bodies were burnt with phosphorus bombs. Similarly, he said, when an ally of government massacred opposition workers in Karachi on May 12, chief justice was manhandled and attempts were made to abduct him.

Munawar demanded immediate restoration of Judges under Murree Declaration saying rulers are creating unrest among the masses by unnecessarily prolonging the issue.
