Qazi urges for smooth power supply to avoid Multan like incidents

LAHORE, Apr 14: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer and MMA president Qazi Hussain Ahmad has stressed that people have become fed up with lengthy load shedding of power and have now started attacking Wapda offices.

Commenting on Multan incident in a statement on Monday, Qazi said the incident is a bad omen for future and government must take immediate measures to provide uninterrupted power to the people.

He said the load shedding has not only closed down factories but also increased unemployment which caused starvation in thousands of families. He said the country was already suffering from serious unemployment situation and if load shedding continued it would increase lawlessness in the country.

Qazi said those involved in today's incident were reported to be mostly the workers of affected power looms but involvement of anti state elements and possibility of subversion could not be ruled out. He said certain anti state elements wanted to destabilize country and fail the new democratic government have grabbed this opportunity.

Qazi condemned the destruction of public property, setting ablaze of staff vehicles and manhandling wapda staff. He expressed wonder as to why the police remained absent despite that the trouble continued for several hours and miscreants roamed freely in the area. Qazi demanded that slackness of police and administration allowing lawlessness for hours should be investigated and those guilty should be punished accordingly.
