LAHORE, Apr 12: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain
Ahmad and PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif has expressed their
agreement that restoration of independent judiciary within 30 days
of formation of federal cabinet is a national requirement which
would eliminate the palace intrigues and put the country on road to
real democracy.
Both the leaders also agreed that powers of all decision making of
national importance particularly the foreign, economic and education
policies should rest with the parliament so that country's
sovereignty could be maintained.
They expressed these views during a meeting at the residence of Mian
Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind where JI delegation led by Qazi Hussain
Ahmad went to meet PML-N leadership.
According to a JI spokesman, during the three hour meeting both
sides discussed country's internal situation, governments in the
making and future strategy for a number of issues. Mian Shahbaz
Sharif, Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, Raja Zafarul Haq, Punjab Chief
Minister Dost Mohammad Khosa and Saranjam Khan were present besides
Mian Nawaz Sharif. While, JI delegation included naib ameer Chaudhri
Rehmat Elahi, Ch Aslam Salimi, Liaqat Baloch, Hafiz Idris, Asadullah
Bhutto, Farid Paracha, Malik Ashraf, Abdul Ghaffar Aziz, Hafiz
Salman Butt and Amirul Azim.
During the meeting, Qazi Hussain Ahmad made it clear that his party
boycotted elections only for restoration of judiciary and expressing
solidarity with judges. He said his party wanted the PPP and PML-N
must implement on Murree Deceleration and reverse all dictatorial
measures of an individual to run the parliament according to
constitution.
Mian Nawaz Sharif assured Qazi that he would stand firm on his
stance and provide complete opportunity to coalition partner PPP for
implementation on the Murree Declaration. He said he would meeting
Asif Zardari within next couple of days to further clarify their
strategy and agenda.
Qazi demanded that American war in tribal areas and settled areas of
NWFP and Balochistan must come to an end.
Later, talking to newsmen Qazi said both sides agreed that only an
executive order was required to restore the judges. He said both
sides agreed that no more committees were required on the issue
since Murree declaration provided for 30 days to implement upon this
demand.
He condemned MQM saying the group had never displayed political
attitude. He said MQM was a fascist organization and deserved no
concession. He said the crime of burning the lawyers alive must not
be condoned and culprits must be brought to book.
