LAHORE, Apr 3: Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded immediate release of national hero Dr Qadeer Khan observing that every passing moment of his detention after formation of democratic government is piercing the hearts of patriotic citizens.

In a statement on Thursday, JI deputy secretary general Dr Farid Paracha said continued detention of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan after formation of democratic government is a big question mark over the new rulers' independence of Bush-Musharraf policies.

He said Dr Qadeer is still incarcerated despite that new democratic rulers have assumed charge and all the cases against them in different courts have also been quashed. He said the latest statement of Dr Qadeer amounts to knocking the hearts of all patriotic citizens because nothing has changed for the father of country's nuclear bomb and he is still serving punishment for patriotism like he had been doing during the days of American slaves.

Paracha warned that new rulers, instead of Gen Musharraf, would be held responsible for Dr Qadeer's detention after change of government at Islamabad.
