LAHORE, Apr 2: Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Syed
Munawar Hasan has said that State Bank's quarterly report has
completely exposed the false claims of former west-imported Prime
Minster Shaukat Aziz and his mentor Gen Musharraf which they had
been making for the last five years to befool the nation regarding
fake economic progress.
Addressing a meeting of party office bearers Wednesday, Munawar
Hasan alleged that Shaukat Aziz fled the country after plundering
about 60 billion rupees through kickbacks of the privatization of
state assets. He further alleged that in order to cover the up his
own corruption Shaukat Aziz issued state loans of Rs. 54 billions to
his accomplices which were later written off. He demanded that
Shaukat Aziz must be brought back through Interpol and tried for
fraud so that the plundered public money could be recovered from
him.
He said for the last eight years Gen Musharraf and his team befooled
the nation about economic prosperity and inflating state exchequer,
but on the other hand poverty and unemployment kept rising along
with the mass suicides. He said Shaukat Aziz could have sold Steel
mills also but timely decision by chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry
saved the country from a vital blow.
Munawar said Pakistan is a cursed nation which has been plundered by
successive rulers for the last many decades, despite that coming
rulers booked their predecessors in corruption cases, spent further
public money on the legal procedures, but none of the cases
concluded in punishing the plunderers and always kept deferred till
the time the accused again came to power to get 'exonerated
honorably'. He expressed sorrow that this evil game has been played
with the nation ever since its inception and God knows for how long
it will be continued.
