LAHORE, Feb 14: Jamaat-e-Islami Information Secretary
Amirul Azim has said that increasing number of western surveys are
showing that Gen Pervez Musharraf is the most unpopular personality
in the country and a large majority of people want him to resign and
allow fair elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Amirul Azim referred to many surveys
conduced by noted western polls institutes showing that majority of
Pakistanis ranging from 65 per cent to 75 per cent hold Gen
Musharraf responsible for all the prevailing crises in the country
and want him to resign to restore normalcy.
Amirul Azim cited survey results of American and European groups
saying that 70 per cent Pakistanis according to US Terror Free
Tomorrow institute, 75 per cent according to Republican Institute
and 65 per cent according to BBC, want Gen Musharraf must
immediately resign. He said all the surveys say that majority of
Pakistanis termed the measures of Gen Musharraf taken on Nov 3, 07
as unconstitutional, illegal and unjustified, and expressed fears
that worst rigging will be witnessed in Feb 18 polls.
Azim said people strongly believe that entire terrorism suffered by
the country today is the result of Gen Musharraf's policy of
becoming frontline state in the so called US war against terror, and
it caused a deep gulf between Pakistan army and people. He said the
claims of economic progress during the last eight years proved false
with the serious crisis of power, gas, fuel and atta. Azim said
Wapda has announced to consider a proposal to increase the rate of
electricity during 6pm to 9pm in the night, which is the prime time
for students to study.
Azim said Gen Musharraf has destroyed all state institutions for
just the sake of his personal power and it is high time he must quit
to relieve the people of their miseries.
