JI
secretary general addresses party convention
LAHORE, Oct 19:
Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general Syed
Munawar Hasan while condemning the bomb blasts at the Benazir
Bhutto's motorcade in Karachi has said that pursuing American
agenda in a country already polarized by merciless killings of
civilians in blind implementation of US agenda by Gen Musharraf is
a highly dangerous job.
Responsibility of the blasts lay with the central and Sindh
Governments who boasted of providing fool proof security to
Benazir Bhutto, he said while briefing newsmen after inaugurating
the camp office at the site of the 3-day JI members convention at
Sham Kay Bhattian, 24 kilometers from Lahore, where it is
scheduled to be held from November 2-4.
Munawar said it remained an enigma as to how such a security lapse
could occur since Benazir was being provided security by American,
British and other international agencies besides the central and
Sindh governments. He said it could easily depict the level of
security of common man in Pakistan.
Munawar said Gen Musharraf had made the country highly polarized
by massacring innocent people for the sake of US war against
terrorism during his 8-year rule. A large majority of people
considered US as the arch enemy of Islam because Washington
imposed artificial wars on Afghanistan and Iraq where hundreds of
Muslims were killed on daily basis besides it patronized
Palestinians massacre by Israel and Kashmiris genocide by India.
Munawar said much ahead of her return Benazir had sounded threats
to the already threatened majority of people by declaring she
wanted to complete the unfinished agenda of war against terrorism,
would allow US forces operations inside Pakistan for searching
Osama Bin Laden and hand over Dr Qadeer to US agencies for
investigations. Munawar said Gen Musharraf too, had been asking
why army and Air force people attempted on his life, but ignored
the fact that majority of the army men were concerned at Pakistan
Army fighting for American cause. To a question, he said Musahrraf
regime owed clarification to the nation as to why no civil society
had witnessed such a large number of suicide attacks than
Pakistan.
Refering to Asif Zardari's accusations that blasts were the work
of agencies, Munawar said secret agencies owed clarifications to
the nation in this regard they arranged Benazir's return as a
result of deal with Gen Musharraf. He said Asif Zardari should
also clarify his lack of confidence over the agencies who
materialized the deal to facilitate Benazir's return and a grand
reception.
Criticizing NRO, Munawar said it was a national fraud to protect
the big fish of corruption, adding that through NRO Benazir had
given message to the people that next regime belonged to the most
corrupt of the politicians and that only the big fish of
corruption had the right to rule the country. He expressed sorrow
that Benazir had sabotaged the rule of law and stabbed the
opposition parties in the back by securing deal with Gen Musharraf
which amounted to ditching the democratic forces in the
opposition. He advised her to shun back door politics and start
front door politics. He said Benazir had actually supported Gen
Musahrraf's re-election by not resigning from the assemblies, and
Gen Musharraf had expressed gratitude for her.
Munawar said all Pakistanis had the right to return to the country
and Benazir should have returned eight years ago. He also advised
Altaf Hussain to return and do politics while sitting among the
people instead of issuing long distance directives.
To a question, Munawar ruled out all the threats to MMA's unity,
saying the objectives of the alliance were far stronger and dearer
than the criticism of few individuals and follies of some other.
He said NWFP chief minister let down the entire opposition by not
dissolving the provincial assembly on time since absence of a
federating unit in Gen Musahrraf's sham elections would make it
further controversial and unconstitutional. He said the next
Supreme Council meeting would hold the chief minister accountable
for violating the APDM decision to dissolve assembly on Sept 29
and making a criminal mistake by showing his cards to the
opposition. To another question he ruled out the impression that
Maulana FAzlur REhman was playing into the hands of Gen Musharraf,
saying Maulana was a seasoned politician who could not be used
against his own will.
Munawar said the JI convention would consult the members for
chalking out future strategies and taking them into confidence
about the decisions. |
