Contesting polls under martial law will mean justifying it: Qazi Hussain Ahmad

LAHORE, Nov 27: MMA president and Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said our basic demand is that judiciary should be restored in its original shape and country's situation should be brought to the state in which it was before Nov. 3, besides lifting emergency.

He was addressing the meeting of JI shoora on Tuesday. He said elections will be a mere fraud in the presence of present martial law and participating them will only provide justification to martial law and Musharraf's actions under PCO.

Qazi said the basic aim of Gen Musharraf by imposing martial law was to get rid of judiciary which was becoming independent and a court of favorite judges should be installed in its place. He said it was for the first time in country's history that majority of judges refused to take oath under PCO and are still persisting on their stance, while those judges who took oath under PCO are giving judgments according to the directives of the rulers. He expressed sorrow that judiciary has been destroyed in this manner, constitution is suspended, lawyers are running a movement against the martial law and for restoration of judges, while the victimization faced by the judges is highly condemnable. Qazi said the statement of Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday should be shameful for the government in which he had stated that he and chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry did not have any house of their own and if they were removed from the official residences they would be compelled to be on the street with their children.

Qazi said all APDM parties are of the opinion that under the present circumstances elections should be boycotted to launch a movement against the rulers which should be continued till judiciary was restored and elections were held under independent election commission and impartial caretaker government.

Qazi said situation has become worse in Swat because of curfew and food like Atta is not available while food supplies could not be sent. This situation has forced people to starve and face serious hardships and causing serious hatred against the government and army. Qazi said attempts are being made to suppress people by imposing martial law in the garb of emergency, which is being done under US behest. He said the military operation in tribal areas is presenting a war like situation which would not be confined to tribal areas and would soon spread to other areas. He warned that it is heinous conspiracy against the country and caused serious dangers to the existence of the country. He said the flames of war should be put out as soon as possible otherwise country could face another disaster. He said relief work in Swat, Bat Khela and other areas has become extremely difficult due to curfew and despite that people are donating food supplies it could not be sent to the people in troubled areas.
