Gen Musharraf fears his own misdeeds: Hafiz Idris

LAHORE, Nov 22: Jamaat-e-Islami naib ameer Hafiz Mohammad Idris said the fresh ordinance by Gen Musharraf was evident that he was still afraid of the consequences of his illegal actions taken following imposition of emergency rule and was fully aware of the fact that the web of illegal measures he had woven around the nation could prove to be a noose of his own neck.

In a statement on Thursday, Idris said Musharraf has been making attempts after attempts to protect his illegal actions, which was both absurd and unfortunate. He said all the measures of Gen Musharraf would be held null and void whenever the constitution would be restored and a genuine judiciary would replace the PCO brand judiciary, adding that it would be the time for those responsible for the unconstitutional and illegal actions to be answerable for their misdeeds. Hafiz Idris praised the conscientious judges of the superior judiciary, the lawyers and members of the society who had rejected the unconstitutional measures of Gen Musharraf.

He said it was a test case for all the political parties of the country whether they rejected the oppressive and unconstitutional system or became a part of it to provide it the much needed justification. He said if opposition parties got united to declare the abolition of the dictatorial system it would throw away the entire unconstitutional structure and the extra constitutional Ordinances.

Meanwhile, JI deputy secretary general Dr Farid Paracha said the Musharraf regime had set a record of dictatorship and black laws. He said the measures by Gen Musharraf regarding holding elections under emergency, suspension of entire judiciary and judges, ban on media, arrests of political leaders and workers and appointing partisan caretaker governments were unparalleled in the history of the country and the whole world.
