LAHORE, Nov 17: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has condemned Gen Musharraf and his regime for shutting down the transmissions of Geo and ARY TV channels by pressurizing the UAE authorities to do that. In a statement on Saturday, Qazi Hussain Ahmad said Gen Musharraf has been influencing brother Muslim countries to gain personal favors for prolonging his rule but his efforts have been damaging the bilateral relations of Pakistan with those brother Muslim countries besides reducing his popularity inside the country.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad made phone calls to Geo TV chief executive Mir Shakilur Rehman and ARY chief executive Salman Iqbal, expressing deep sorrow over the closure of their transmissions and conveying them complete solidarity on behalf of Jamaat Islami in these testing times. Qazi also paid them tributes for facing with courage the immense government pressure and victimization.

Meanwhile JI secretary general Syed Munawar Hasan also condemned the closure of Geo and ARY channels and expressed solidarity with the organizations. He expressed amazement as to why brother Muslim countries are supporting and cooperating with Gen Musahrraf in his dictatorial, unconstitutional and immoral acts. He asked if the rulers of brother Muslim countries have relations with only Gen Musharraf and not with Pakistani people.

He said first a Muslim country helped Musharraf in abducting and illegally deporting a former prime minister and now cooperating in closing down TV channels speaking the truth.
