LAHORE, Nov 6: Jamaat-e-Islami
Wednesday continued to stage demonstrations in city by evading
attention of police and law enforcing agencies as a group of JI
leaders and workers gathered in front of PTV Lahore offices to stage
a demonstration for about 15 minutes and dispersed before the
arrival of police.
About 30-35 slogan chanting JI workers reached at the PTV main gate
from both sides, locked the iron gate by fasting a wire lock and
then some workers climbed up the gate and fixed a large banner on
the iron pillars over the gate which read "Restore Private News
Channels, Stop Flattering Talk Shows by Official Butterflies".
Another banner which was fixed on the boundary wall read, "PTV's New
Name, Musharraf'f Filth Depot", said a press release, adding that
the PTV security members could do nothing since they were locked
inside.
The workers were led by JI information secretary Ameerul Azim,
former MPA Chaudhry Shaukat and others leaders raised slogans
against Gen Musharraf, demanding lifting of emergency rule,
restoration of Chief Justice of Pakistan, release of judges and
lawyers, and lifting curbs on private media and opposition parties.
A number of passers by and workers going back from offices in the
evening hours also gathered at the place and within minutes a big
crowd assembled there which also joined as chorus to the JI workers
in the anti-Musharraf sloganeering.
Addressing the workers, Ameerul Azim said the nation had rejected
the Martial Law in the name of emergency, whose sole aim was to
overthrow a dozen judges of the supreme court who were defying
Musharraf regime for going by the constitution. He said it was even
the mockery of a martial law since the pet politicians were allowed
to continue flattery of Gen Musharraf who had been implementing anti
Islam agenda of Washington in the name of enlightened moderation.
He condemned the large scale arrests of lawyers and political
workers, house arrests of judges and political leaders, curbing
electronic media and civil liberties, besides besieging political
offices and press clubs in the country.
The JI workers left the scene before the arrival of police who
arrived there only to find the PTV workers locked inside. The police
helped the PTV security staff to cut open the wire lock. (#)
