LAHORE, Nov 06: Jamaat-e- Islami
on Tuesday began presenting bouquets to the judges who refused to
take oath under PCO and have been detained for resisting the
government pressure for taking oaths.
Jamaat-e-Islami information secretary Ameerul Azim and other office
bearers visited the residence of Justice Khwaja Mohammad Sharif of
Lahore High Court and presented him the bouquets with the
commendatory messages from J leadership and workers besides
representatives of people from different walks of life.
The JI leaders included Hafiz Salman Butt, Chaudhri Shaukat, Asad
Manzoor Butt, Waqar Nadeem Warraich and Rao Javed Iqbal. They were
accompanied by several party workers and a group of journalists.
On reaching at the residence of Justice Khwaja Mohammad Sharif, the
armed police guards refused to let the delegation enter or the
learned Judge come out to receive the bouquets.
However, few journalists managed to reach inside the residence and
talked to Justice Khwaja Sharif who said that for the first time in
Pakistan's 60-year history the judiciary had started giving
judgments independent of the official pressure and perfectly in
accordance with the provisions of constitution and laws of the land.
He lamented that the military establishment committed a naked
aggression against the judiciary just to protect illegal power and
vested interests of the western masters.
Justice Khwaja Sharif said those judges who refused oaths under PCO
had actually upheld the constitution and the laws of the land. He
said Gen Musharraf should step down and Chairman Senate should
replace him as per constitutional requirement. Justice Sharif in an
emotionally charged voice expressed grave concerns over the
systematic trampling and destruction of state's institutions,
security of the country and democracy.
Addressing the mediamen outside the residence of Khwaja Sharif,
Amirul Azim said the judges who refused unconstitutional orders,
threats and pressure from Gen Musharraf and his illegal
administration have become real heroes of Pakistani nation since
they raised the prestige of the country in the eyes of countrymen
and the whole world. He said the nation paid glowing tributes to
these judges who withstood the dictatorial pressure and threats to
their lives, families and children.
He said people of Pakistan would continue to support those judges
and the ongoing movement would culminate in restoration of democracy
and those judges.
Hafiz Salman Butt while talking to Justice Khwaja Sharif on phone
said that JI's struggle for the restoration of democracy and
eradication of military dictatorship would continue till meeting
success. He said the nation would take rest only after restoring all
the judges who refused oath under PCO. Justice Khwaja Sharif
expressed gratitude to JI leaders and workers for their support.
Hafiz Salman Butt also talked on phone to Justice Saqib Nisar and
Justice Ijaz Chaudhri, and paid tributes to their courage and
determination for the rule of law.
The JI leadership vowed to continue to continue supporting the
members of judiciary who had rejected the PCO and unconstitutional
orders of the military dictators. (#)
