JI ameer demands CJ-led judicial tribunal to probe Rawalpindi carnage

LAHORE, Dec 28: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has termed the assassination of PPP chairperson Ms. Benazir Bhutto target killing and demanded a judicial injury into the gory incident by a three-member tribunal comprising Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Chuadhry Mohammad Iftikhar Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui and Justice Wajeehuddin Ahmad.

He was addressing a press conference on Friday at party headquarters Mansoorah. Flanked by the JI naib ameer Ch Rehmat Elahi, Ch Mohammad Aslam Saleemi, Hafiz Mohammad Idrees, party's secretary-general Syed Munawar Hasan, Deputy Secretary General Dr. Farid Ahmad Piracha, Mian Maqsood Ahmad and Secretary Information Ameerul Azim, the JI ameer called for convening a national consultation to be participated by all the shades of political life to formulate joint strategy for steering the country out from prevalent crisis.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the sniper shooting killing Benazir was tried to cover up through subsequent bomb blast at the scene of incident. He said the government claim that it was "suicide attack" could not be corroborated by an independent source. It has become a routine matter that government tries to cover up its security lapse by branding every violent act as suicide blast and lay its blame on the doors of Al-Qaeda. The nation reserves its right to know the real faces behind the curtain who were involved in such heinous crimes, he told the media people. He added that Washington is trying to portray Pakistan a failed state and that is why it keeps on hurling direct military attack against it.

The Jamaat ameer demanded resignation of President Pervez Musharraf saying that national consensus is the need of hour. For achieving this objective, he reiterated, to revive the points which were agreed upon between the MMA and ARD two years back. He told the reporters that the JI shoora will shortly be convened to carve out future strategy.

To a question, Qazi Hussain Ahmad out rightly declined that his party will not participate in the all parties moot convened by General Pervez Musharraf since his autocratic style of governance is the basic cause of all odds confronting the nation.(#)
