JI leader warns against contesting elections

LAHORE, Dec 17: Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Secretary General Syed Munawar Hasan has said that constitutional amendments in order to validate the steps taken during emergency by General Pervez Musharraf should be eye-opener for the parties contesting the elections.

In a statement on Monday, released to press by the party's media cell, Syed Munawar Hasan said that the American and Western welcoming of lifting the emergency without free and independent judiciary proves that they are themselves involved in this conspiracy.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that Washington is ready to axe free media and approving an onslaught against the independent judiciary so that transparent elections could not be held in Pakistan. Pervez Musharraf, he said, is out to constitute a rubber stamp parliament thus paving the way for agencies' government in the country.

This plan, he said, could only be thwarted through the boycott of January 08 elections. He expressed the hope that Pakistan loving people would foil this conspiracy by boycotting the next elections.
