Qazi lashes out at forced retirement of judges

LAHORE, Dec 5: MMA president and Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has harshly condemned the forced retirement of judges of superior judiciary who refused to take oath under PCO.
In a statement on Wednesday, Qazi Hussain Ahmad termed the measures as the blackest and most cruel step by the dictatorial regime which is simply unacceptable for the nation. He appealed to the nation, particularly, the lawyers, students, workers, civil society and media to extend full backing to the sacked judges and support the opposition parties' struggle for independent Pakistan by boycotting the coming fraud elections.

Qazi said there is no provision in the constitution and the procedure laid down for the removal of superior judges for the manner in which the rulers sacked these judges. He said as a result of the martial law imposed by Gen Musharraf on November 3, the judiciary was left completely destroyed and the justice was literally buried in the country. Qazi said the conspiracy to destroy the superior judiciary was prepared at the behest of Washington since the supreme court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhri had adopted a commendable role for the recovery of the missing persons which made Washington and its stooges realized that they could not take Pakistanis hostage in the presence of independent judiciary.

Qazi also recalled that the commendable manner in which supreme court had taken notice of the loot and plunder of generals and allotment of plots by their frontmen panicked the military and civil establishment that Supreme Court had started holding them accountable for their massive corruption. He said the dictators and their cronies were not used to of such accountability and they conspired to destroy the judiciary to cover up their massive corruption.

Qazi emphasized that the main target of the Nov 3 martial law was the independent attitude of the judiciary headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhri, and the current step of forcibly retiring the judges is a continuation of the Nov 3 martial law and attacks on the judiciary. He warned that all the measures of Nov 3, 2007 and later on were unacceptable and the struggle would continue till the reversal of all those measures and restoration of the superior judiciary headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhri.
