JI shoora warns against western   cultural onslaught in country


LAHORE, Jan 13: Jamaat-e-Islami Central Council (Shoora) has expressed serious concerns over increasing obscenity and vulgarity in the country particularly on the media under government patronage and termed it a well thought out conspiracy to undermine Islamic values and corrupt the young generation to achieve the ulterior motives of the west.
In a resolution passed by the Shoora in its meeting held Jan 7-10 at Mansoorah, it said the government is patronizing the western conspiracy against Islamic values of decency and modesty, for which our society has been made a victim of the western and Indian cultural onslaught on official and private media. Promiscuity, vulgarity and lewdness are being promoted in educational institutions and social gatherings in the name of culture and arts. Cheap and aimless dramas, vulgar dance and music shows, obscene advertisements and films of immoral themes are being shown on the electronic media in which wayward youth and criminals are presented as heroes.
Whereas on the cable and dish all the lewd stuff is in access of everybody which is fast corrupting the moral values of the society, it said.
The Shoora expressed anger and sorrow over the present state of affairs of the media and said it aims at destroying Islamic values and culture, character of young generation, and subsequently our family system which is the basis of our morality. The Shoora said it will be a faster way to complete the secularization of the society which would prove disastrous for the country.
The Shoora demands that immediate curb should be imposed on this flood of vulgarity and profanity that is eating away our moral values and decency. Media policy should be evolved in light of Pakistan ideology, and promiscuous gatherings should be discouraged particularly in educational institutions. Western NGOs should be barred from promoting their culture though mixed gatherings and training courses where men and women are allowed aimless free mix up. Islamic values should be promoted at all levels while unbridled music shows and love story based dramas should be stopped on the media, besides the vulgar advertisements.
