Resolution
on
Labourers’ problems
LAHORE,
Jan 12: Jamaat-e-Islami Shoora has expressed concern over
military government's anti-workers policies, saying they are
working on foreign masters' agenda of downsizing, rightsizing
and forced retrenchments which has pushed the unemployment to
new heights. In a unanimously passed resolution, the JI Shoora
observed that privatization of sensitive national institutions
like PTCL and Wapda is against national interests but the
government is selling them at peanuts while throwing tens of
thousands of workers to starvation. Continuous and unjust
increase in petrol prices has consequently raised the prices of
every essential commodity making the lives of the poor hell. The
Shoora demands increase in workers salaries in proportion to the
price hike, halting of economic massacre of workers through
privatization of sensitive departments, downsizing, rightsizing
and forced retrenchments, all retrenched workers be reinstated,
new avenues of employment be created by alleviating unemployment
situation, presidential ordinance of removal from service be
withdrawn which has mercilessly killed working class, MoD be
withdrawn from Railways and trade union be restored while all
the dismissed and transferred employees on charges of trade
unionism be reinstated. It demands that right of trade unionism
under Pakistani constitution and ILO convention be restored,
contract labor system be abolished, all contract workers be
regularized, concessions be given to local industrialists
instead of multinational companies and thousands of closed
factories be run again and national labour policy be enforced
after having consensus between employees and employers. It
demands that army be withdrawn from all civil institutions and
deployed at the borders, economic policies must not be evolved
under the dictation of world financial institutions nor the
sensitive institutions be closed on their demand, and the policy
of selling costly railways lands on peanuts be stopped which is
rendering thousands of workers families homeless.
