Hafiz Muhammad Idrees Deputy Ameer

  1. Hafiz Muhammad Idrees was born in religious farmer family in Gujrat, Punjab on 17th October 1945. His father Mian Fiaz Mohayuddin was a well known personality and Local Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami of the Unit. He was also chairman of Zakat Committee. He was widely respected. He was one of earliest companions of Syed Abul Ala Maududi and stood by him in hard times of Jamaat.

    Hafiz Muhammad Idrees received his early education from his local Schools. He was only nine years old when he learnt the Holly Quran by heart. Being an intelligent and hard working student, he had bright educational carrier. He won scholarships and medals from his Primary examination to University exams. He did his BA from famous Government College Lahore in 1967 as Gold Medalist. He stood first in M.A Arabic examination held in 1969,by University of the Punjab and was awarded Gold Medal. Again in 1971 he did M.A in Islamic Studies from the same University.
    He was religious in nature from his very childhood, thus during his student life, he joined Islami Jamiat Talba Pakistan as an active member. He served the IJP as its nazim(president)in its Lahore chapter from 1968 to 1970. He served as member of the central advisory board of the organization-68to70. In 1970 he was elected as President of the Punjab University Students Union. In 1971, he became member of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan keeping his commitment with the Movement, and readiness to serve, in all conditions.

    Founder of the Jamaat Syed Abul Ala Maududi sent him to Kenya as Director of Islamic Foundation, Kenya. He served as Director Islamic Foundation Nairobi from 1974 to 1985. He launched many educational welfare and propagatory campaigns for the spread of Islam in Africa. He was active member of Young Muslim Association (YMA) Kenia and life member of Sir, Ali Sports Club Nairobi.
    On his return to Pakistan, in Novermber1985, he was appointed, Assistant Sectary General Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. He was elected President, Punjab Chapter of the Party, in 1991, and then held this office for consecutive four terms. He himself resigned in 2003 and proposed the name of Liaqat Baloch as his successor. Now he is Naib Ameer jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan and the Director of Idara Muaraf-e-Islami (Islamic Research Academy) which is an important academic and research Institution. It was founded by Syed Abul Ala Maududi himself in 1978. Hafiz Muhammad Idrees served as Deputy Director of the Said Body from October 2003 to April 2004 and since then has been its Director.
    He was elected as a founder Chairman of Shuhada-i-Islami Foundation, in 1995. In his capacity, as such he had lent a helping hand to the families of thousands of Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the defense of homeland. Together with this, he takes keen interest in the amelioration of the have-nots.  He was replaced by Liaqat Baloch in 2006.

    He was the founder Chairman of Ghazali Education Trust (A non Governmental Educational Institution) intil 2003. He is an ardent lover of Islamic unity, that is why he was elected President MMA (Mutahida Majlis-e- Amal) Punjab, an alliance of six religious Parties which was tailored to meet the post 9/11 Challenges. He served as Chairman of well known Publishing house “Islamic publications” for 12, years of which he is still a member of BOD. His lectures and Daroos Quran are found on Jamaat’s Web Site.

    Literature research and journalism are special areas of his interest he has written about 50  books on varied topics like Seerat (Prophet’s (PUBH) life and personality) lives of the companions’ of the Prophet (PUBH). Elegiac essays, short stories, Prison Diaries ,  travelogues and translation from Arabic Literature are of note along with many small booklet on various topics.

    He has also written over 3, thousand essays, which have appeared in National and International newspapers and Magazines. He is also publisher of weekly Asia which is published under the aegis of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. He has vastly traveled to Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe, America and Far East as delegate to different conferences. He has two sons and a daughter. The former are members of Jamaat-e-Islami Paksitan and the latter--a member of its women wing.
